POLICIES Health and Safety Policy Statement
The Management Trustees of the Sikh Society of Milton Keynes – are committed to comply with the current legislation and the prevention of injury and ill health to our congregation, employees, contractors, and other visitors who may be affected by our undertaking. The operational responsibility for implementation of this policy lies with the President of the Gurdwara. The Management Trustees are committed to the objective of zero accidents and the prevention of damage to property, plant, equipment and the environment. This will be achieved and maintained through risk assessment and management and the ongoing maintenance of the Gurdwara. The Management Trustees will ensure that all stakeholders and employees are informed about the policy and arrangements for carrying out their work safely. We will consult with them on its implementation and associated health and safety responsibilities. The Management Trustees believe that excellent standards will contribute to the highest levels of health and safety performance and accordingly encourage ideas from all stakeholders to drive through initiatives aimed at continuous improvement of our services to the public. The Management operate a no blame culture to ensure we investigate and learn from all health and safety reports and incidents and as such encourage our congregation and others to report shortfalls in health and safety provisions. We will continuously monitor health, safety and environmental performance to ensure that standards are being met, management controls are working efficiently and improvements are being made.
This policy will be reviewed every year in January.
Child Protection Policy Statement
The Management Trustees of The Sikh Society of Milton Keynes (SSMK) believe that child welfare is of paramount importance and that all children must be afforded the right to protection from abuse regardless of who they are and their beliefs. This policy has been approved and endorsed by the management trustees and applies equally to all staff, volunteers as well as the trustees and is not negotiable. SSMK remains committed to safe recruitment, selection and vetting of all trustees and staff and endeavors to comply with all principles and statutory obligations underpinning this statement of intent. SSMK are fully supportive of the procedures and systems which promote children’s health, safety and welfare which includes the safety arrangements in the Gurdwara, anti-bullying and photography. This policy statement will be openly communicated to all stakeholders and will be publicly displayed in a prominent place so that everyone can access it, be informed of its contents and the supplementary procedures. Any concerns, and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously by our organization and responded to appropriately - this may require a referral to children’s services and in emergency cases, the Police. This policy and its associated procedures will be reviewed every year in January.
Equal Opportunities Policy Statement
The aim of the Gurdwara’s equal opportunity policy is to endorse the values of impartial treatment and diversity in the workplace. The aim of the Trustees is to ensure no employee, volunteers, visitors or members are unlawfully discriminated against on the grounds of gender, gender reassignment, age, race, religion or beliefs, colour, nationality, marital status, physical or mental disability, ethnic or national origin, sexual orientation or any other unlawful criteria or circumstance. It is a shared responsibility of all the Trustees to ensure that everyone is universally treated with respect, dignity and consideration. To promote this policy the Trustees will:
• Establish and maintain an environment where everyone is treated fairly
• Treat everyone equally with dignity and respect to ensure that no individual is unlawfully discriminated against.
• Support anyone who genuinely believes that they have been discriminated against and ensure that they are not victimized as a result of raising their concerns
• Take action against anyone who is found to have breached this policy
This policy will be reviewed in January each year.
